A life of creativity

I have never felt close to the title of “artist”. I have always considered myself to be a craftsman. I believe that art begins with an intangible spark and it is up to me to capture it and to craft that spark into something that has the ability to move the spirit. It is through craftsmanship that I come to conclusions and answers about my work and that always lead to more questions and more opportunities to explore.

In my atelier, my jewelers bench is next to my artists easel. For me they serve as one unit. Often as I am working on a design for engraving or designing a custom piece of jewelry I find they become one workspace. Studying traditional ornamental design has given me the opportunity to improve my draftsmanship. Studying painting has improved my figurative engraving and is allowing me to interject those methods into my custom jewelry.

As I move forward my goal is to grow as much as possible as a craftsman. I want to see how far I can push myself to become the best I can be.

I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts from The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. After my education I lived and worked as a photographer in NYC and LA before returning to Oklahoma to pursue a career in art and craftsmanship. My knifemaking work was featured in the OKC Museum of Contemporary Art exhibition Art Now. In addition my knife designs have been featured on the tables of top restaurants in the United States. I currently live in Paris, France. I have continued my education studying with master engravers and master stone setters. I am currently continuing my fine arts study in Watts Atelier online program as well as being active in monthly life drawing classes in Paris.
