The Turnpike Troubadours are a super talented group of Okies. They are awesome musicians and their new album is outstanding! Their new single "Every Girl" is currently #12 in the Texas Music Charts! They were playing in OKC at The Wormy Dog Saloon this weekend and I had the opportunity to do some live photos of the show. It was an absolute blast!

When I was a kid I always wondered what it would be like to be on stage rockin' with the band. The thing I love about the Troubadours is that they let me do what I want. I am able to get close and I really get a feel for what its like from the stage. The light is so different from the inside looking out. All the stage light is pointing at you and offers so many opportunities to capture color in a way that you can't from the crowd. You get a sense of the stage and the room and the reality of being right there. It's a very intense experience being that close to the music. I wanted to make some impressionistic images to capture the look of the sound and the feel of the energy of the night. I think it came off very well. I am going to be working on a project with the band in the near future and I am really excited to get to spend some more time photographing such an awesome group of musicians.

I had a great night seeing old friends and making some new ones! You have to go see the band live. You WILL have fun!!  

When I hold my new (old) camera in my hands I can't help but think of the tradition of the great portrait artists of the past who labored away creating some of the greatest masterpieces of the 20th century with nothing more than wit, smarts and a simple machine in their hands. I aspire to the same thing. I aspire to be more creative and find inspiration in the past, present and the future. I aspire to give my clients something outside of the box. Sure it may not be for everyone and while digital photography will encompass the majority of my photographic workflow, I am going to reserve exclusive "retro" sessions shooting with film only! Last month I had the chance to go on a camping trip with one of my oldest and best buddies. It was great being in the beautiful mountains of Colorado. Sitting here in the heat and humidity of Oklahoma makes me want to be back there now. I hope you enjoy a few photos from the trip.

I got to spend today with my family at the OKCMOA. It was a good day!
